The debate whether or not it is safe for babies to sleep with you has gone on for years. On the one hand some say that not only is it safe for the child, it actually has psychological benefits for both child and parents. Others would be quick to point out the many dangers that are present when the baby sleeps in the same bed with you.

Instead of picking one side of the argument, perhaps it is best to make it safer for your baby in your bed, if this is what you have chosen to do. The biggest fears when sleeping with a baby are crushing the baby, or suffocating her. A few precautions can decrease this risk greatly.

The first thing to do is to make sure your bed is large enough for you and your baby. A king or queen size bed should do. When sleeping with a baby, follow this guideline. Never have the infant sleep in between you and your partner. It is ideal to put baby on the side, with a barrier between the wall and yourself to keep the infant from rolling off.

In most instances, it can be safe for your baby to sleep with you. It also has it’s benefits. If breastfeeding, it makes it easier to feed your baby. You don’t have to disrupt your partner, you can simply let her nurse while you stay semi-asleep.

Another good idea in having all the benefits without some of the obvious privacy issues is using a sleeping basket. Set this beside the bed. You can hold the child until she falls asleep, then transfer her to the basket. When she wakes in the night, you won’t have to get completely out of bed to care for her.

If concerned about health problems, having your baby sleep with you can be a benefit. Or at the very least, near you. When your baby is within arm’s reach, chances of problems are greatly reduced.

There are certain situations that should be avoided when sleeping with your baby. Parents who are ill should reconsider, you may transfer your illness to your baby. After consuming alcohol, the senses also begin to dull, if there is a problem, you may not be aware enough to recognize it.

When deciding if it’s safe for babies to sleep with their parents, common sense should dictate your decision. If your baby regularly sleeps with you, and your bedtime routine becomes altered due to exhaustion, stress, illness, etc., these can effect the safety of your baby. If you feel that you are not as alert as you should be, don’t risk it, use the crib.

Getting Ready for Baby Number 2
Whether you planned to have another baby within two years of having the first baby or it came as a surprise like for me, leaving my husband going “how did that happen?” you have to get ready for baby number two.

Some of the things you might want to keep away from your first born when you are pregnant are morning sickness and mood swings. If your first born is a year old or a little older, it is very important for them to feel that they are still mommy’s #1.

Some of the things that you need to prepare for are:
Let your first born know that he/she will be having a baby sister or brother.
When you are throwing up, do not ask your first born to go away, instead, tell him/her that you are okay. It is only natural for them to worry. It will build a sense of trust and security between you two.
Let your first born be a part of preparing the baby’s room.
Prepare your child to share his/her toys with the baby. Make them look forward to sharing by saying things like “your baby sister or brother will be so happy that you gave him/her this toy” or “you are such a good brother or sister”.

Why should you keep morning sickness away from them? First, they are still bonding with you and when they see you sick, they will be frightened. It is not good for your child to be attached to you through fear. This will increase separation anxiety. Why? Your child is still bonding with you and building their security and when they see you sick and in pain, their natural tendency is to be afraid. Why is this bad? At this age they think and feel more than you know even though they may not be able to bring it out in words. These feelings will take a place in their subconscious mind and they will associate that feeling when you have to leave the house, etc. That is why it is important to keep the morning sickness away from them. If you do not have any help, like me, talk to them and tell them that “mommy is okay”. When they come and stand by you crying because they are afraid that something is wrong with you, do not tell them “go away to another room”, instead give them a hug and assure them that everything is okay.
Second, the reason I ask to keep your mood swings away from your child is because they feel that a lot is going on in the family. At this age, they will also wonder if it is because of them, so keep your moodiness and irritation away from your child. When your partner gets home, take a break and go for a walk, get some pampering or whatever will relax you.

Spend time with your child talking about the baby that will be coming soon. My son was sixteen months when I got pregnant with my daughter. I made him a part of her development. He helped me get the room ready. He chose the paint and the curtains, etc. He was proud that he was going to be a big brother. Although he was only 20 months old when we decorated my daughter’s room, he was emotionally mature and did not feel threatened by another baby coming into our family.

Sometimes you do need patience with the babies. If you feel like you are about to loose it, remember they are not going to be babies for very long, so enjoy them. Kids and babies respond to love and kindness better than they respond to anger and punishment.

For children weighing less than 20 pounds who are also under a year old, infant car seats are what your child needs to ride in the car with you. Your baby will fit snugly into the infant car seat as it’s designed to give the baby the proper neck and head support so that the baby is safe while you drive.

The safest seating position for small children is facing backwards, which is why infant car seats face the rear of the car. With an adjustable design, the infant car seat should belts can be positioned into the right configuration to that your child fits perfectly into the seat.

Infant car seats are the most commonly used convenient way to transport a young child in a car. In fact, you are legally required to use infant car seats in most states if your kid is under 2 years old. The laws on infant car seats can vary from state to state, but all 50 states in the US have laws requiring babies to be placed in infant car seats.

To make infant car seats easy to carry, most are designed with smoothly contoured handles. Infant car seats are generally easy to clean because the infant car seat cover is usually removable allowing any stains or dirt to be cleaned in the washing machine.

Most infant car seats are equipped with the removable baby carrier which is very convenient for loading and unloading, especially at nap or sleeping times. Infant car seats are great as you can carry the whole seat out of the car without waking the baby.

If you want to transport your baby safely in any type of vehicle, infant car seats are the safest way to go. If your baby is 20 pounds or less, you’ll need to out them into an infant car seat. As far as your baby’s safety is concerned, an infant car seat is one of the most important items that you’re going to purchase. Make sure you secure the infant car seat in the back seat f the car facing backwards. Infant car seats can be purchased online where there is more variety and better price comparison.

It can be hard to find good gifts that new moms will really need. If you are the one who is the expecting mother, you want to be sure of the things you need, and the things that will help you be the best mother possible. Here are some general ideas that I came up with.

1-Diapers

You might be saying, ‘well, isn’t this an obvious one’? Yes, but don’t forget that every mother can never have enough diapers, and you never want to be out of diapers. You also might want to look into cloth diapers kits.

These kits are perfect because they are so comfortable for you children and will help you save tons of money. If you don’t know about cloth diapering and how easy and wonderful it is you really need to.

2-Wraps, Slings or Pouch

These are the perfect item for every new mother! These are so comfortable and nice and will help any busy mother not lose a step while taking care of her newborn as well. These are an amazing gift too!

3-Baby Toys

Of course toys are a must have for any new baby. But it’s always good to pick out more educational toys. Every mother wants their child to be smart, and the learning process can start now.

4-Stroller

These are so important, not only for the child but for the mother too. You want to have your child see the world but you also need to get some good exercise.

Sometimes we want to save a little money by buying a less expansive stroller. It’s good to be a smart shopper but it would be horrible if the stroller didn’t last. Get a reliable one that you know fits all your needs.

5-High Chair or Booster

When you are looking for a high chair they can be pretty pricey sometimes. Make sure that you are getting everything you can for the money you pay. Look for those that your child won’t grow out of too fast, or those that can be easily adjusted for the height of your baby, like Svan high chairs.

6-Crib or Co-sleeper

Co-sleepers are amazing! They are the perfect gift too! Many women want to sleep with their children but don’t want to harm them, now you can with a co-sleeper that easily attaches to the side of the bed for easy access to your newborn.

Having a baby in the days leading up to Christmas can be a wonderful thing. It’s a time year that holds a special place in the heart for many people and a new addition to the family seems to add to that fantastic sense of happiness. It can also help to bring the entire family even closer together, at a time of the year that many people associate with families.

You may have been fortunate enough to have had a baby around Christmas time. In this case, you could be considering what to buy as a gift for the new arrival. Alternatively, if a new baby has arrived for a friend or family member, you might be thinking about whether to buy something for the baby or the parents. How can you approach getting the right present?

If you’re one of the parents then you might think that your task is not so difficult. You could simply have a conversation with your partner and decide upon what is really needed. This can help you to decide on something that is practical and that’s really required. Another option would be to select a gift that is a bit more of a novelty or that might be looked upon fondly for years to come. Soft toys, for example, can make an excellent gift.

For those considering buying presents for someone else’s baby, the decision can be a little more difficult than when buying for your own child. Ideally, you may want to speak to the parents of the baby to see what they think would be suitable. If this isn’t possible then you’ll need to come up with some inspiration of your own. Think about little extras that the parents might appreciate but would not yet have bought.

Many people wonder whether it’s possible to buy the wrong present for a baby? It’s not generally very easy to do, since most parents will appreciate any gift, accepting it as a kind gesture. If you’re worried then you can always check before buying to make sure that you’re chosen gift is safe and suitable.

Bedtime! If you ask new parents about which is the time that is the toughest for them, most will definitely heave a sigh and say bedtime!

One of your hardest jobs with your new baby is getting her to sleep. After all, the world is a very interesting place, and having boundless energy to expend, who has time for sleep, anyway?

A new born cannot make out the difference between day and night. What are your options? Babies don’t understand logic. You can’t shout or scold them, this will only make matters worse. So the best thing to do is provide a sleep conducive atmosphere.

Here’s how it works. Babies prefer to be creatures of habit, they do best when things are scheduled and set for them. So you can “teach” your baby that daytime is for play, exploration, eating, and fun. Nighttime is for relaxing, and sleep. Setting a schedule and sticking to it, should condition your baby to nighttime sleeping. Being consistent is key.

Routine tips on how to get baby to sleep:

Setting the baby on her back in the crib. When you place your baby in the crib this way, she is going to learn that this is the time to rest and sleep.

Naps, too, should be scheduled at a regular time each day. Regular daytime naps can help to get baby to sleep longer periods of time at night.

Set the atmosphere, after laying your baby down to sleep make sure you don’t make it a “social” or “fun” time. Be quiet and soothing while feeding or changing diapers. This quiet and soothing time will help your baby establish nighttime is for sleeping.

A simple bedtime ritual can also help get your baby to sleep. For example, you can give her a warm and soothing bath then read to her, or spend a few moments quietly rocking. Because babies are creatures of habit, consistent bedtimes and these rituals will let your baby know that it’s time to go to sleep.

The first trip into a bedding store can be a bit of a surprise to most new parents or those about to be parents as there is an amazing number of baby crib bedding sets and options available. Finding the right baby crib bedding sets is really all about knowing what you want as well as what options in the set will best suit your needs.

The basics of baby crib bedding sets have changed very dramatically over the years. Most of the traditional baby sets are going to contain at least four different components, but others have a standard of six. Generally the four basic components are the crib sheet, the baby comforter, the dust ruffle and the bumpers for the inside of the crib.

Other manufacturers and some of the newer styles of baby crib bedding sets may have additional features. These additional pieces are sometimes very practical and a great addition to any baby’s room, plus they will coordinate perfectly with the set. One such handy, practical yet great looking addition to baby’s room is the diaper stacker.

For those that aren’t familiar with the term, a diaper stacker is a uniquely important aspect of nursery bedding and functional design items. It is typically a soft cloth bag that is designed to hold clean, fresh diapers in a stack, perfect for easy access at the changing table. Most diaper stackers will match baby crib bedding sets, making them blend right into the room.

Another popular option or feature for baby crib bedding sets is a matching valance that coordinates the window with the crib design. Matching patterns and fabrics are almost impossible to find, so this helps busy new Moms to create a very pulled together looking room all in the same baby bedding pattern. Often companies will also sell additional valances if there is more than one window in the baby’s room.

Different types of accessories that match with the baby crib bedding sets are also an essential part of developing a d?cor for the room. These accessories are available separate to the set and allow options for mixing and matching colors, patterns and even designs to give a completely unique look to the baby’s room.

A very popular and must have item is a mobile to hang over the crib. Having the mobile match with the baby crib bedding sets available is an additional coordinating touch that can be added later if it is not purchased with the set.

Finally there are companies that offer everything from matching pictures for the walls to matching lamps for the baby’s nightstands or dresser, all which compliment the baby crib bedding sets. These coordinating options can be a wonderful addition to any home, plus they can really take the pressure of the family to try to coordinate baby crib bedding sets with room d?cor and design. Some items may work with several different baby crib bedding sets, ideal for those planning on having children in the future.

Many of us grew up in a time where there were no child safety measures to worry about when we were riding in the car. Kids could bounce all over, stick their legs out the windows, and ride up front en masse with mom and dad. Babies didn’t even get special attention. An infant could be put anywhere - on the seat, on the floor, or in mom’s arms. Of course, after some serious fatal accidents the government finally had to step in and force the regulation of some infant and child safety measures. Ergo, the birth of infant carseat safety procedures.

In today’s world, heavy fines and penalties exist if you even try to take your baby next door to borrow a cup of sugar - without properly restraining him in an approved carseat.

As opposed to earlier versions that could be placed anywhere, these newer ones are ergonomically correct and must be placed facing backwards, in the back seat, in a position where the driver can access the baby quickly.

Carseats grow as an infant grows. There are car seats designed for newborns, who aren’t even allowed to get into a car to go home until a nurse has seen the car seat and checked to make sure it has been properly installed.

Kids outgrow everything, and this includes this includes their carseats as well. Somewhere around six or eight months you’ll need to replace the infant seat with a larger one. As babies grow, the head rests and seat bottom just don’t fit them anymore. They need to be fitted to a larger size that will accommodate their new body shapes.

Some of the more expensive styles can convert to serve other purposes. They have optional attachments that can turn them into strollers, rocking chairs, and carryalls. The attachments can be added later on, instead, if that’s more budget friendly.

When it comes to creating the perfect space in your bedroom, you want a lot of your energy and focus to go into the various bedding items you pick up. Sure, a simple sheet might be enough to cover you at night, but is that comfortable? What about during the colder months? Do you just throw on a lot of mismatched blankets to keep warm? The best way to stay warm and comfortable is by having a complete set of matching bedding items.

However, you need matching bedding items for more than just keeping your warm and comfortable. Matching bedding items help you to create an invitingly warm bedroom. You can really tell the difference in the energy of the room upon entering the bedroom.

When you compare the differences in a room with mismatched bedding and a room with matching bedding items, the difference in the energy of the room is amazing. There is no need to worry about the price, since you can find some incredible deals on all the items you need.

You want to make sure though that you are not sacrificing quality for price. You want a good deal but you want a good deal on decent bedding items, not cheap ones. Also, make sure that when you are shopping for matching bedding items that you get everything. This means the fitted sheets, flat sheets, pillowcases, comforter, pillow shams, and maybe even a throw blanket. Heck, you might even want to go a little further and get the matching curtains as well if they can be found.

You will also want to shop for at least one complete spare set of matching bedding items. You can always use the other set while you wash the set on the bed. You may choose another set just like the first, or you may want to choose a different design of matching bedding items. Having a full set of bedding items will make your life much easier.

In addition, remember, your bedroom should not be the only bedroom that you put a lot of effort into. Yes, kids like to trash their rooms from time to time but that does not mean that they should be without matching bedding items.

There are various styles and designs available such as solid colors, prints and cartoon themes. You may also want to select a comfortable set of matching bedding items for your guest room in order to comfortably, accommodate any unexpected guests.

In the end, a complete matching bedding set will cost a little more than using the mismatched things you already have around the house, but it is well worth it. So, start shopping around and look to see what your options are out there.

Babies have the ability to learn to read beginning at around 3 months old. If you have the opportunity to begin early do so. Don’t wait until your baby is older. When you begin at a time when your baby is not doing much physically, they will give you their attention. When beginning with older babies, some parents struggle with holding their attention. When certain babies gain mobility, they have no time to sit still, even for a few seconds. Begin early and your child will never remember a time when they couldn’t read.

First, when it comes to trying to teach your baby to read you have to understand that it is all about them. You cannot shove the words down their throats. You have to let them choose when they play reading games and when they don’t.

You can use magnetic letters to easily create words on demand or to review old words. When you put together words, you can spell them out as you assemble them, thereby teaching your baby the names of the letters and how to spell. Remember your baby is like a sponge and will absorb all this information.

This helps them to see the letters and the words much easier and it will be easier for them to find the reading games you use for teaching a baby to read more fun. This will help them to want to read more often as well.

Use video. - There are some great videos available that teach babies to read. This is a fabulous way to get your program started because babies like to watch television. You can see how the words are presented and how your baby responds to the program. It requires no preparation and can be used immediately. It is really easy to branch out to flash cards once you have begun with videos.
