Naturepedic Organic Baby Crib Toddler Bed Mattress
memorabilia does not belong in the ‘throw-away society’ of today, we tend to hold on to many of their items…
In addition to that, when you are pregnant, there will be a handful amount of people satisfied enough to give you their old nursery furniture and crib bedding.
When family and friends donate bedding and cribs for your baby, respond with gratitude. After all, adding a baby to the family is expensive. When picking bedding and crib for your baby, do a little research to make sure the products are safe and trustworthy.
Whether it is a Moses basket or baby crib, there is something very special about your child’s first bed. Hand-me-down beds need to be checked for safety issues first, then take some time to refinish them to make them special for your little one. The baby bedding may look new.
Have you checked its safety? An old wicker cradle can be beautiful to look at but check for safety as there may be loose or broken bits of wood, and some joints can become loose or weakened from age; we also would recommend that you replace the mattress with a new one. While baby believes everything should go directly into the mouth, protect your infant by checking the skirt when fitting for loose threads or other choking hazards.
Any loose threads or pieces of material may end up in the child’s mouth, so when the drapes have been fitted, be sure to pick these things up. Juvenile Products Manufacturer’s Association (JPMA) and British Standards (BS) recommend new bedding for baby’s crib as a safety precaution. Go in for JPMA or BS ‘KITE’ marked products. They are quite safe.
As for me, receiving products that were used before is perfectly fine when safety is not an issue and when the furniture is in food shape, even if it is baby bedding. As your baby will spend quite a good time in the crib, it is worth spending time on it to see whether it is safe and comfortable. Here are some things to keep in mind when inspecting the safety of your baby equipment.
First off, always make sure to check for spots where a child’s clothes might get caught and any chipped, loose, or toxic lead paint. Make sure that the baby’s head does not get caught between the bars of the crib by making sure the spindles are no farther than 2 and 3/8 inches apart and that the header and footer boards are securely attached with no spaces for the baby to get caught in.
A sturdy crib requires tight joints and fixings. You will want to make sure the side rail can be lowered or raised using one hand and when it is all the way up is is securely in place. Last, the mattress should be clean and not too soft, and be sure that the side rail is no lower than 22 inches above the crib mattress.
I think it is important that each new baby should get a new mattress, but make sure the mattress fits well in the crib before buying. Nursery bedding that is not well-secured can cause suffocation, so either tie the bumper securely or take it out completely.
For babies under a year old, overheating can be caused by using duvets, quilts, sheepskin, and pillows. Blankets and sheets with a good thermometer in the babies room will help assure comfort. Keep the crib away from cords on lamps, window blinds and curtains and also keep the crib away from other furniture the baby can climb on, babies are very good climbers!
Always remember to enjoy every moment with your baby, they grow up before you even realize it.
